Preventive Dentistry
At Koup Family Dental, we believe the best way to help our patients maintain their oral health is to start with prevention. It is the foundation of our relationship with our patients.
Through regular hygiene visits and personalized home care education, our staff will provide you with the tools needed to help sustain good oral health and, more importantly, to prevent costly and painful situations down the road.
Know that our ongoing relationship with you, through regular visits, enables us to customize additional treatment, if needed, to what you really need when you really need it.
The best prevention involves both good home care habits and regular dental hygiene visits.

Practice Oral Hygiene at Home
Home care is very important to the health of your teeth. No matter what your age, proper and consistent oral hygiene is essential!
Koup Family Dental recommends the following home care regimen:
- Brush your teeth twice daily with an ADA (American Dental Association) -approved toothbrush and toothpaste
- Floss daily
- Follow a healthy diet: Manage your sugar and simple carbohydrates intake (link to blog article)
Get Dental Checkups Twice a Year
Regular hygiene visits allow for the removal of tartar and plaque that cannot be removed by brushing alone. They also permit us to diagnose and prevent many common oral health issues before they become a bigger problem, such as gum disease, tooth decay, condition of existing fillings and crowns, oral cancer and more.
Stained and yellowed teeth from coffee, wine and other substances can dramatically decrease the esthetics of a smile. After each hygiene visit, you will leave our office newly cleansed of these unsightly stains.
Visiting us on a regular basis gives you the chance to talk with us and receive answers for questions you may have about your dental health. Checkups are also a great opportunity for you to find out about new treatments that may benefit your smile.
Finally, we can help you develop the most effective treatment plan for your mouth including:
- recommendations of toothbrushes, toothpastes, mouthwashes, and other oral health products
- sealants to provide extra protection
- fluoride treatment
- mouth guards for those grinding their teeth (often without knowing it)

We realize with the hustle and bustle of daily life, the health of your teeth may not be your first priority. However, good dental health is an integral part of your overall health. Truly, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
